Bead it Like You Mean it

I am honored to have an opportunity to review Lyric Kinard's new beading DVD today on the blog!

Lyric is a fellow host on the "Sketchbook Challenge" and I've enjoyed getting to know her there.
Oh, I've seen her work, watched her Quilting Arts DVDs and heard lots of good things about her but I've never met her in person.

Watching the DVD felt like meeting her though!

One of the things I really loved about the DVD was her voice...it sounds so calming and the distinct way that she enunciates her words made it so easy to understand what she was saying (coming from someone with a bit of hearing loss- that is important).
Bonnie McCaffery was the videographer and did a spectacular job with scene shots, the sound, and close-ups. She shot the close ups in such a way that you could see every movement that Lyric (and her beading needle) made.
Great job Bonnie!

Back to the actual content.

Lyric covers applying one bead at a time, attaching a long line of beads (seed beads, bugle beads), a curved line of beads, stacks of beads (including funky chunkies), caging a cabochon (or just making one look better!), scrumbling and how to attach beads to a finished quilt without leaving evidence on the back of it.

Whew!

I learned so many cool tips about needle selection and thread usage. Now I know why I was having so much trouble beading the edge of a small bag that I had made...

This video is PACKED with information! There is truly something for everyone here - from the newbie to the advanced beader.

And the price is right people...19.95 (plus shipping) until Oct. 12. The price increases after that to 24.95 (plus shipping). Grab it while you can save a few bucks...you can use the savings to buy more beads.

I'm giving away a copy of the DVD here on my blog!
There is one small catch though...you'll have to answer a question for me to be entered in the give-away.

Q:What is the craziest thing that you've ever seen anyone put beads on?
A: ??

So - leave a comment with your answer and I'll choose a name on Oct.7, this Friday. That will give a few days for everyone to leave a comment.
If you don't have an email attached to your blog name, please leave me a way to contact you.
Or be sure to check back Friday for the winner.

Good luck!

If you just can't wait - here is a link to go ahead and purchase it. Remember it's on sale until Oct. 12.

There are a few more blog reviews with give aways associated with them. I'll post a list of them so you can keep entering to win!

Oct 7 Jill Berry http://jillberrydesign.com/blog/
Oct 10 Jane LaFazio http://janeville.blogspot.com/

Here is a second response since the first one doesn't seem to appear. A bra!

The craziest place I have seen beads was in a flower display. Then they threw them away with the flowers. I would have saved them and reused in something else.

Thanks for the chance to win!

When I bought my house, the elderly lady had strung a beaded fringe garland ... In her cupboards! Hanging... From each shelf! Now that is truly crazy! Cool...bit crazy tho!

The bra that Jane LaFazio has on her blog would be the craziest thing I've seen beaded. Thanks for the chance to win this great DVD!

Lady Gaga's face is the craziest place for beads that I have seen.

Like Dee, I saw them on a formal bouquet of flowers. They were beautiful, but I really wanted to snag the beads before the flowers were tossed. I also want to thank you and the others for the sketchbook challenge. I don't post much or comment often, but all have inspired me this past year to delve into area I never thought I would go. Thank you.

Reading others' responses, I have to laugh, because my first thought was the same - the bra that Jane LaFazio decorated with beads (after viewing this DVD, I believe!)...

The beaded car was probably the most craziest thing I've ever seen beaded.

On a car! I'd love to win this DVD. I have been dreaming about beading on some sweaters (a lot less crazy than on a car)

No such place. Any place is good for beads as long as you can glue them or sew them. Recently this was discussed on another blog and the idea of decorating a computer came up. I'm traveling now until November and will dig in to my bead stash when I get back to add some bling to my desktop monitor!

A car's headrest!! A friend attached beaded designs to the back of her car's frontseat headrests so that her daughter (strapped in a carseat in the backseat) would have pretties to look at. Very imaginative.

I've seen beads on cars, appliances (sewing machines, blenders, etc, on bras, woven in hair, and don't think any of those places were crazy! Thanks for the chance to win the DVD!

Crazy things I have seen beaded?
Sewing machine, bike handle bars, and a dog hat. A friend beaded an antler - which sounded weird, but ended up looking organic and beautiful.

I don't think I've seen anything crazy like the others have mentioned. I've seen beads on pencils (dipped in glue then beads) and on other objects like that. I've seen beaded lampshades, window treatments, "mirror warmers" on car mirrors. Thanks for theopportunity to win the DVD. I have Lyric's book and love it.

Likewise for me...I've never seen anything too crazy for beading! And this DVD would let anyone bead anything in the universe!!!! Just can't get enough of beading...

Before I got addicted to those tiny glass gems, I saw some rocks beaded and thought it was the dumbest thing. After getting bit by the glass bead bug, I now can see those rocks through a different lens. Bright beautiful and sparkly little bits of magic placed here and there to make you smile whenever you saw them! Thank you so much for the chance to win!!!

I saw beads on someone's eyelids, very odd. Thanks for the chance to win the DVD.

Is there really a place too crazy for beads? I can't think of one unless it would be the backside of a pair of underpants! :)

I'd have to say body parts. Thanks for the opportunity!

I thought the bra was cool except for the dangles.

Not sure its the craziest but...
I have a friend who was afraid to have her ears pierced, so super glued beads to her ears, she did this everyday for years. Finally at 40 she got her ears pierced.
I think the DVD would be a GREAT addition to MY library!!!

The V&A Museum has an old beaded serving tray. I've had beading on my mind ever since seeing that years ago.

My Son has been beading pieces for his Native American Regalia , the clothes he dances in , and has done some amazing pieces, A fan I made him with antler and feather he added a beaded segment, his coo stick and his Roach which is a Native American hair piece. all are amazing and he is the one child I didn't really teach beading to .. it just comes natural. If you would like to see some of these just look for Louis Pardo on Facebook, in Jacksonville Florida...have a beady day and a bit of info for everyone ..the word bead in olde english means prayer.

Okie dokie, I had a customer once, a guy, that had made a pair of VERY short shorts...he made the shorts out of black shiny stretch vinyl. Then he put white eyelet lace on the hems for trim. The beading was along the edges of where the lace met the vinyl :)
