One Bird

One bird.
Several applications of color and line.

I usually draw a couple of versions of the same image.

I begin with way too many details...I can't help it.
I get started drawing and I can't seem to stop. With the small details that is.
(But I know that I can alter it digitally so I don't worry about it).

I scan the drawing as is.

Then I drag it into PSE (or PS) and begin erasing all those tiny details.
I save a stripped down image and one of (almost) every version or translation in between.
Strip Down Model. No Color.
A few small details.

Why not add more??

A black bird.

A little bit of yellow bird.

Outlined in blue black bird.

A pink bird.

A red bird.

I could have create at least a hundred more variations using the same bird drawing.

I thought it would be fun to print the stripped down bird in an art journal and add details with a black pen (or colored one for that matter).

You could print the same bird on fabric and use stitch to add details.

There are so many different ways you could use this bird image!

Photoshop Elements Collage

Maybe I should just call it a compilation of images instead of a collage...

I scanned Dover images into PSE.
Then I removed the background on all of them.
And put them all together!

I thought they would make a really cute screen for a kids shirt.

Here's one -

And here's the other one -

Originally I had another mouse in the first one - peeking out from behind the tree.
But I removed him because he wasn't printing well on fabric.
Here's a sample print.
You can see the extra mouse behind the rabbit.

I can barely see that he is a mouse.
So, he had to go.

I printed this with Simply Screen (water based screen printing paint). It is #98528 Sugar Plum (a metallic).
I bought the paint on sale at Hobby Lobby. Cheap, effective and a nice variety of colors.
But a little tacky after it dries. Not so noticable on fabric but it is on paper.
Which is where I usally use up my excess paint after a printing session.

I haven't printed the racoon screen yet.

But I have printed this lovely unicorn I sketched out.

And it's really wierd that this scanned out as this pale color.
It was printed with a #98530 OMG Pink. Which is a neon pink...
Weird, I tell you.

But the prints are not.
They are really cute!

Pen to Paper

Since I can't seem to accomplish anything else in the studio these days (I have been fishing though!), here are a few marks I have made.

My plan is to prepare these images for my shop of thermofax screens.

A bit of a different color palette for me. Just playing around...

A rooster!

Same rooster, darker lines.

Right. Left.

A few feathers darkened as well as the chest. I like it!

I guess I was obsessed with rooster for a few days...

Possible Up and Coming Thermofax Screens

Possibly.
Maybe.
Well, we'll see (as my mom used to say) (OMG or was that me?)...

A collage of kitties

One cool kitty.

A pack of dogs.

And The Winner Is...

Nancy A.

" Wow! What great screens! I think my favorite is Thermofax Screen Gauze Screen,
but it was really hard to choose. I loved them all! "
Nancy, I will be emailing you to get the info we need to mail the goodies (from me the gauze screen) to you!

Congratulations!

Holy Cow!

I can't believe that it has been almost a month since I posted!
It must be true that the older you get, the faster time flies. It sure seems true to me.

What have I been doing in all that time?
I'll see if I can round up a few photos to show you.

I scanned one of the doilies that I made years ago and converted it into an image that is suitable for a thermofax screen.

The doily was too large for the scanner bed
so i had to seam it in PSE.

What a beautiful screen! I'll try to remember
to post photos of fabric that I screened with this.

I've been drawing some.

Okay, drawing a lot.
When I am relegated to the couch (with an ice pack) (back/hip issues), I tend to draw or hand stitch.
Or read.

Here's a few of the drawings.
I made most of them into thermofax screens for my personal use. I need to put them into my Etsy shop but haven't had the mojo to do it.
If you see something you like and want a screen, email me about it.

I love these shapes.
They look so sensual to me.

This is an abstraction of a shadow that I saw on my wall one night.
I loved the shape and quickly sketched it out at about 3am.
I went back a few days later and tweaked it a little.

That poppy shape keeps creeping back into my drawing.
I love the possibilities of it.

I just realized how out of place this image is with the other ones.
It began life as paint blob and, thanks to PSE, became this
wave type thing.
Or maybe stripes from a tiger.

More to come.
Maybe the color will appear next!
